Having a beautiful patio or decking in your garden can be a wonderful way to entertain guests, relax in the summer, and enjoy being outdoors. But the last thing you want is a grubby, dirty patio that is not so inviting.
With being outdoors, your patio can start to gather a build up of dirt, water, mud, moss, algae and many other grimy substances that can make it look horrible, dark, and cover up the stunning potential of your patio slabs.
The best way to keep on top of this issue, is to keep cleaning your patio regularly. But this can be a tiresome and time consuming task that will keep you busy all day. However, there is a better way: pressure washing.
Pressure washing is one of the simplest, most effective and most satisfying ways to clean your patio. The powerful nature of the pressure washer can help lift grime and dirt, revealing your clean, clear and stylish slabs underneath.
The pressure washer works to remove dirt with a powerful spraying mechanism that blasts the water in a forceful manner, which pushes built up grime away. This is done so much quicker that you will never take to scrubbing your patio ever again.
If you have a pressure washer, and want to clean your patio, then you are in the right place. We have created a step by step guide of how to clean a patio with a pressure washer.

How to clean a patio with a pressure washer
Step One
In order to effectively clean your patio with a pressure washer, you will first need to make sure that you have cleared your patio completely.
This means removing all patio furniture, plants and pots, or any ornaments.
Step Two
Next, you will need to grab a broom or brush and push away any loose debris, leaves or dirt from the surface of your patio, and brush it away.
Step Three
Once this is done, you will have to connect your pressure washer to a water supply.
Most people will use their garden hose to do so. Connect your pressure washer to the hose and turn on the tap.
Step Four
If you pull the trigger gun on the pressure washer, then the water should run freely out of the hose of your pressure washer.
Let this run for around 20-30 seconds to clear out any build-up from inside.
Step Five
Some pressure washers will allow the use of soaps and detergents to remove any stains from your patio slabs. If this is the case, then you must first wet the slabs with a light spray setting.
Then you can add the detergent to your pressure washer and spray onto the patio with the low pressure setting. If not using detergent, then skip to step seven.
Step Six
If using detergent, leave it to sit on your patio for around five-ten minutes so that it reaches the cracks in the slabs.
After a few minutes, you can then rinse off with a medium pressure setting.
To do this, you will want to start from one corner or edge of your patio and work across the slabs using large sweeping motions.
Step Seven
To effectively clean your patio with a pressure washer, you will want to keep the washer at a 45-degree angle and use a wide fan setting.
If there are particularly hard to move dirt build-ups, then you can adjust the lance on your pressure washer. This will create either a wide fan of water or a more concentrated jet of water to remove more stubborn dirt.
The best way to clean your patio is to point the pressure washer hose downward at an angle towards the patio. Try to sweep back and forth in one direction first, before moving on to another.
However, remember that more powerful cleansing settings are only intended for sturdy and hard surfaces such as stone or brick. It is not recommended that you use the concentrated jet stream on wood or near any vehicles.

Step Eight
To finish, you will want to put the pressure washer on a lower setting to sweep and rinse off any dirt left from the power wash settings.
Finally, you can disconnect your pressure washer and pull the trigger until the hose is empty of any leftover water.
